I reckon that might have been a clutch lever rather than a left-hand front brake. Imagine juggling the throttle and the clutch lever with the same hand!

A good story which brought back fond memories. My cross-country riding experiences came a bit later, beginning in 1976, on an R60/5 & later an R75/7. I would eventually venture out from New England to riding in all 50 US states, and well beyond. How many times did I continue past a perfectly legit fuel stop only to sit silently by the roadside some miles later? It’s warm and wonderful to recall those times, the beginning of a riding lifetime well-lived.

I kept a journal that I read now and again. Needed a new chain and rear brake pedal which lost a battle with rocky shoulder south of LA. It took about 60 days and 6 rolls of film, great adventure for a 23 year old .

What a little jewelry that bike was. Though I never toured on it.(used a 650 trophy.) Thanks for the flood of memories.

I think the authors are just a few (2 or 3) years older than me. My wife & I did some similar trips on a 1971 BMW R75/5. Might have been a bit more comfort than the Triumph, less vibration, 6 gallon tank, better lights, BUT still many fun memories. Thanks for the memories!
